Om Shree Ganeshaya Namaha

My salutations to Thee

My salutations to Thee

Spotted this beautiful  idol of Ganapati adorning the tabletops at one of my friend’s place. It was too cute to pass taking a picture.

The Elephant God (Ganapati) is one of the most revered Gods in the Hindu pantheon.

‘Om Shree Ganeshaya Namaha’  literally means “Ganesha, I pray to you”

  1. “Namah” means ‘submit to’ and ‘bow down to,’ in the sense of honoring. It does not mean ‘pray to’. I feel it is important to be true to the translation without taking liberties. It would be more accurate to say that it is a prayer that means ‘Om, I bow to Ganesha’.

To say it simply means “I pray to Ganesh” misses something essential. I know your heart is in the right place. Not criticizing you. But loose translations do lose meaning.
